100 Happy Days: Day 20 - Marazion & St. Michael's Mount

For the 20th day of my 100 Happy Days I took a trip to St. Michael's Mount in Marazion, Cornwall. It was a gloriously calm and bright day, which transformed the water into a sparkling blanket of turquoise. When the tide is out, a path that runs all the way to the island appears and it's possible to walk across. However, the tide was in when I arrived and so the only option was to travel there by boat. I was rather glad that this was the case though, as it made the whole experience feel more like a holiday - haha!

There's a harbour for the boats to let passengers on and off, and the island itself is comprised of a castle, church, gardens, cafe/restaurant, plus a few shops and houses. The castle and church contain a multitude of interesting artifacts, from maps, antique weapons & armor, and cannons to statues, stained glass panels, and even - in room with walls covered with maps, oddly enough -  a mummified cat from ancient Egypt!

The views from the top of the castle are also worth a mention, as they were absolutely gorgeous.

After spending a wonderful couple of hours exploring and looking at the objects on display, it was time to leave and the castle, church and gardens closed at approximately 5pm, with the last boats returning shortly thereafter.
